Google purchased Motorola in February. This included all Motorola?s divisions, including the cell phone and tablet Pc division. This seems to have opened the door to Google attacking Apple on the patent front was reported in Bloomberg. We have all been hearing a lot about Apples lawsuits against Samsung and it appears the Android tablet pc developers are starting to gang up on Apple.
Samsung was initially on the ropes in court but has recently come out swinging by claiming multitouch technology which is one of the key technologies Apple feels Samsung has infringed upon was being used long before Apple says it ?invented it?. Samsung also claim that Apple by using technology to email photo?s seamlessly has infringed upon one of it?s patents. Apparently Samsung does not use it in their phones and tablet pcs but Apple does use it in their iPhones and iPads.
Now Google has opened another front in the patent wars. This may be a strategy to wear Apple down, as a war on multiple fronts could become a massive revenue sink! The patents that Motorola claim have been infringed are the following. Location reminders, e-mail notification and phone video players.
Is this just the beginning? Will there be more Android tablet pc and phone producers attacking Apple? Will companies like Toshiba, Sony and Acer wade into the battle? Apple is certainly cashed up and eager to protect its position in the mobile computing market place. However can they really stand up to a concerted effort from all other tablet manufacturers?
It will be interesting if Microsoft Corporation will also enter the fray. Microsoft has one of the biggest database of patents on the planet, including patents within the mobile and tablet computer arena. The next few years are looking very litigious.
