LSU's Les Miles leading the pack for Twitter followers among FBS football coaches

Upon finding out he has the most Twitter followers among all FBS college football coaches, LSU Coach Les Miles went out and did the natural thing Tuesday night. He tweeted.

According to a USA Today poll, Miles is tops among those of his colleagues with Twitter accounts. As of Tuesday night he had 87,808 followers, far ahead of Notre Dame's Brian Kelly who has 81,991. See the list of top 10 below.

"Trying to get in as much practice as we can before Christmas. Tonight went great and we are looking forward to Atlanta!" was Miles most recent plunge into social media.

It was Miles' first tweet this month and 502nd overall. He tweeted twice in November and twice in October and 10 times in August before his season-opening game. Strangely, he follows no one - zero - not even any of his players, likely because he admittedly puts little into it.

There's little doubt it's Miles' propensity for malapropisms, to say something unexpected or just plain goofy that nets him so many followers.

"It's surprising considering how little I Twitter," said Miles at his Tuesday post-practice media briefing.

"With all the people competing with me for that position, I can say I'm not prepared often and I've not worked at it at all. It's a shame if they're disappointed in any way and that they've twittered more than I. In fact, they should be disappointed."

Miles had a Twitter outburst when he attended last summer's College World Series game between Arizona and South Carolina in Omaha where his daughter, Smacker, was participating in Olympic swimming trials, but has kept it under wraps for the most part.

"That was an impromptu, unannounced Twitter," he said. "I probably need to Twitter a little more. As I anticipate the holidays coming up I probably need to get a good holiday Twitter out there. Merry Christmas would certainly be a fundamental one.

"Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, might really send home the (message). . . and you could say some personal things about Santa Claus, and maybe the reindeer. There's some stuff you could do to zing the holiday spirit."

Never one to pass on a cliche', when asked about his strategy, Miles replied, "It's not how you start, it's how you finish."

SPRING PROMISE: Miles indicated running back Alfred Blue and left offensive tackle Chris Faulk would not be available for the Chick-fil-A Bowl but both should be ready in 2013.

"I would guess (he'd be) ready for the spring," he said of Blue. "I would guess (Faulk will be) ready for the spring as well."
