Plans in place for food and drink festival - A Little Bit of Stone

We?re only in March but preparations for the ninth Stone Food & Drink Festival in October have been under way for some time. The organisers have issued this press release ? and there?s lots being planned for the big event?

Record crowds attended the festival last year

Now in its ninth year the Stone Food & Drink Festival, which is set to take place on Friday 4th, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th October this year, looks set to welcome a host of new exhibitors in 2013.

With enquiries from producers as far afield as Scotland and Cornwall, the Midlands food festival is gaining a reputation amongst trade and visitors alike, as festival chairman, Richard Stevens, explains: ?We were blown away by the success of last year?s festival ? it really is getting bigger year on year and we?re attracting not only exhibitors from far and wide but visitors who are willing to travel quite a distance to the event, many making a weekend of it.

?For our part, we will continue to add new attractions and develop existing events ? such as our Talks & Tastings Tent, which went down a storm in 2012, and activities for families. We?ll also be making some exciting new adjustments to the demonstration kitchen format in 2013 with some fun, interactive events planned alongside usual free cookery demonstrations.?

Whilst carefully selected producers from across the British Isles will showcase their wares in the Gourmet Marquee, the event ? which is supported by Taste of Staffordshire ? will retain a distinctly Staffordshire flavour. Richard says: ?The success of the past two years is proof that you don?t need celebrity chefs on the billing to make a food festival a success. This event is all about celebrating fantastic produce and helping put Staffordshire on the culinary map; we?ve got some genuinely talented chefs and some exceptional producers. It?s great for visitors to be able to get a real sense of this when they visit the event but still be able to sample ? and buy ? wares from artisan producers based in other areas that they would otherwise be unlikely to discover.?

In addition to the main festival, which takes place over three days on Stone?s Westbridge Park, there are a host of events and food-related activities going on in the town in the week prior to the ?big event?. The festival Farmers? Market graces the High Street on Friday and Saturday of festival week, while Minibus Real Ale Trails and ?Manger a Trois? roving meals ensure that local restaurants and pubs in outlying villages also benefit. Pubs, restaurants and hotels in the town also get involved with special festival offers and events that range from cook-offs to themed meals.
