INDIANAPOLIS -- Dozens of animals affected by the tornadoes that struck southern Indiana on March 2 are now calling Indianapolis home. The animals were taken in by the Humane Society of Indianapolis because the Clark County shelter does not have enough room to house them.Indy Humane took in 33 animals on Saturday."Some of the animals they are seeing at the Clark County shelter are those that have been surrendered by families that no longer have homes,? said John Aleshire, CEO of the Humane Society of Indianapolis. ?Others are strays, but all of them need to be safe and cared for, and Clark County is simply running out of room.?The shelter plans to clean up the animals, get them shots and find good homes for them.It will be a couple of weeks before animals will be put up for adoptions, partly because the shelter wants to give them some time to settle in, and partly because several of the animals haven't been spayed or neutered.Copyright 2012 by TheIndyChannel.com All rights reserved.
